Ama Waterways changed the face of river cruising this May by launching its largest passenger ship – and the largest on the Danube River - the AmaMagna.
AmaMagna is the brainchild of the company’s President and Co-Founder Rudy Schreiner. “Dreams are fueled by an individual’s passion but usually accomplished through the creativity and hard work of many,” said Schreiner. “This ship represents a labor of love for so many people who contributed groundbreaking ideas, as well as a lot of hard work that was done by the team to bring my dream project to reality.”
In just a few months’ time, the AmaMagna has received rave reviews and has surpassed guests’ expectations. “The delighted reactions of our guests when they embarked on this cruise is genuinely rewarding,” said Kristin Karst, AmaWaterways’ executive vice president and co-founder. “With the choice of four distinct dining venues, five bars, elegant lounges and exceptional accommodations, AmaMagna has been designed for those seeking a fresh, contemporary and dynamic take on river cruising. This beautiful ship has a direct appeal to ocean cruisers, who are accustomed to the luxury of expansive personal space and a wide variety of leisure activities during their vacation.”
At 72 feet wide - twice the width of traditional river vessels - the AmaMagna is able to offer the most spacious suites on the Danube, starting from 355 square feet, to an impressive 710 square feet. All staterooms and suites are appointed with stylish décor and natural wood accents. The suites feature full outside balconies, open seating areas and luxurious bathrooms, complete with double sinks and walk-in showers.
But it’s important to note that, with the notable increase in ship size, AmaMagna carries just 20 percent more guests at 196, with a crew of 70.
Some of the benefits guests will enjoy as a result of the generous space is an expanded entertainment and activities program, including a cinema, a large boutique, and a sun deck with a large heated pool, relaxing whirlpool and sky bar. With fitness and wellness in mind, the AmaMagana has an expansive Zen Wellness Studio, complete with a large exercise area offering group classes focused on stretching, cardio and core strengthening and spin classes led by a professionally trained Wellness Host. The Wellness Studio is complemented with a juice bar and two massage rooms, along with manicure, pedicure and hair services. Golf enthusiasts can take advantage of a new Concierge Golf Program, providing the opportunity to experience four top-level golf courses in Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, and Germany.
Perhaps the most innovative new addition onboard the AmaMagna – and the first of its kind on any river ship - is The Marina, located in the aft of the ship. With a retractable watersports platform, The Marina offers the use of paddling equipment and has its own Sundowner boat providing small group excursions along the river.
Four unique dining venues delight guests onboard the AmaMagna. The Main Restaurant serves delectable meals with locally sourced ingredients, and the intimate Chef’s Table delivers a multi-course dinner with an open-kitchen concept. AmaMagna further introduces two enticing new dining venues: Jimmy’s, a family-style restaurant named for AmaWaterways’ late Co-Owner Jimmy Murphy, and the Al Fresco Restaurant, with retractable windows and outdoor seating. All meals are complimentary, along with wine, beer and soft drinks served with lunch and dinner. There is also a complimentary Sip and Sail cocktail hour daily, and several special dinners throughout the cruise.
Because of her size, the AmaMagna makes her home in the Danube River, cruising weekly between Vilshofen, Germany, and Budapest, Hungary from March to December, as well as into Romania and Bulgaria on select dates. Journey along the Danube and see firsthand why this storied river has inspired generations of artists, poets, and musicians. Indulge your passion for timeless architecture and art in four magnificent capitals: Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, and Prague. Let the hills come alive with the sounds of music in Salzburg and the Austrian Lake District. Cruise through the enchanting Strudengau Valley and let the melodies of the Danube carry you from one gem to another on a regal journey through time.
